Summary

Haoran’s PhD research is at the interaction of human cognition, political behavior and statistical modeling. He uses machine learning to explore the psychological factors driving partisan strength and conflict, develops and tests interventions to reduce social divisions and conflict, with the ultimate aim of creating a more sustainable and harmonious social and political environment.

He is now working on a systematic review with meta-analysis to build a comprehensive framework outlining the antecedents of partisan polarization. In his MSc dissertation, he investigated the effectiveness of short-term behavioral interventions in promoting self-interested decisions and explored ways in which these interventions could be utilized for positive outcomes.

Experience

Haoran holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Durham University, where he was awarded £2160 by the BPS undergraduate research grant. He then worked as a course organizer for an education center in Beijing before he obtained a master’s degree in Behavioural Science at LSE.
